Job summary

Gusto, Inc. is seeking an AI-native Design Systems Designer to join the Builder Enablement team. You will evolve Workbench, Gusto's design system, for AI-assisted workflows and for how designers and engineers ship high-quality work.

You’ll partner with design and engineering, own token architecture, and contribute to documentation and AI tooling. This role combines senior design system craft with hands-on collaboration in a hybrid Denver office.

Qualifications

• 4+ years on a product design systems team with lifecycle experience.
• 7+ years in product design.
• Experience using AI tools (Claude, Copilot) in workflow.
• Ability to pair with engineering and contribute to code repos.
• Knowledge of WCAG AA accessibility guidelines.
• Strong knowledge of AI design tools and token-based systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns.
• Own semantic and token architecture as Brand Refresh progresses.
• Collaborate with engineering to ensure coded implementations and PRs.
• Contribute to AI tooling and documentation for LLMs and AI workflows.
• Support product designers and engineers via Office Hours and reviews.
• Publish design decisions and usage guidance for the system.
• Participate in systemic decisions on architecture and migration.
