Job summary

Gusto is seeking an AI-native Design Systems Designer to join the Builder Enablement team. You’ll evolve Workbench, Gusto’s design system, and craft AI-assisted workflows for designers and engineers. You’ll own token architecture, component patterns, and how the system interacts with LLMs while shipping code-driven deliverables.

The role blends rigorous systems thinking with hands-on design and collaboration across product, design, and engineering, in a hybrid, multi-city environment.

Qualifications

• Design systems experience across full lifecycle: design, implement, document, adopt.
• Product design experience on a dedicated design team with IC/lead roles.
• AI tooling fluency and ability to guide AI-assisted workflows.
• Technical collaboration with engineers on implementation and constraints.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns, including complex components with variables, variants, and tokenized styles.
• Own and evolve semantic and functional token architecture as we execute the Brand Refresh and move toward theming.
• Work closely with engineering to ensure component consistency including coded implementations.
• Contribute to AI tooling and documentation that makes the system legible to LLMs.
• Support product designers and engineers through Office Hours, Slack, and async review.
• Document and publish design decisions, usage guidance, and component rationale.
