Job summary

Gusto is seeking an AI-native Design Systems Designer to join the Builder Enablement team—responsible for Workbench, Gusto's internal design system, and for how every designer and engineer ships high-quality work with AI assistance. This role sits at the intersection of deep design systems craft and AI-assisted workflows.

You’ll evolve Workbench, contribute token architecture, and ensure the design system serves LLMs and AI-assisted products as well as human designers.

Qualifications

• 4+ years on a product design systems team through design, implementation, documentation and adoption.
• Experience with token architecture and component API design is required.
• Strong AI tooling experience and ability to guide AI-assisted design workflows.
• Ability to pair with engineering and contribute to technical plans and code repositories.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain Workbench components and patterns, including complex components with variables, variants, and tokenized styles
• Own and evolve semantic and functional token architecture during Brand Refresh and theming
• Collaborate with engineering to ensure component consistency, including coded implementations and PRs
• Contribute to AI tooling that helps designers and engineers use Workbench, including documentation and Storybook examples
• Support product designers and engineers through Office Hours, Slack, and async reviews
• Document and publish design decisions, usage guidance, and component rationale
• Participate in systemic decisions about component architecture, naming conventions, and migration strategy during Brand Refresh
