Job summary

Thomson Reuters is seeking a Lead Software Engineer (Staff Engineer) to own backend and AI orchestration systems for CoCounsel for Audit. You will drive architecture, tooling, and scalable workflows across millions of documents and complex tax data, working with OpenAI/Anthropic integrations in a hybrid US setting.

You will mentor senior engineers, shape platform patterns, and partner with product and ML teams to deliver auditable, trusted AI experiences for accountants and auditors.

Qualifications

• 5-7+ years of full‑stack development experience and building scalable cloud applications.
• Deep Python expertise with FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS.
• Strong background in distributed systems and performance tuning under load.
• Proven track record leading large projects from architecture to rollout.
• Excellent communication and collaboration with product, design, and ML teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across AI, product, and infra initiatives over multi‑quarter horizons.
• Mentor engineers, raise the bar on system design, and advance AI integration practices.
• Shape roadmap, strategy, and engineering culture with emphasis on experimentation and testing.
• Design and own AI‑first backend systems powering agents, workflows, and knowledge bases.
• Build high‑throughput, low‑latency services with robust observability and SLOs.
