Thomson Reuters in Minneapolis area is seeking a Senior Software Engineer - AI to join the CoCounsel International team. You will build backend services in Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL, integrating with OpenAI/Anthropic and orchestrating AI workflows for international products.

You'll partner with Labs, product managers, and designers to translate early concepts into scalable, production-ready features for legal professionals worldwide, mentor peers, and help shape platform architecture and

Qualifications

4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production backend systems, APIs, and microservices for real customers.
Strong proficiency in Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud services with distributed systems know-how.
Experience designing and deploying production-grade agentic AI workflows including multi-step reasoning and orchestration.
Excellent debugging skills and ability to deliver reliable, production-ready systems.
Strong collaboration and communication in fast-paced, cross-functional environments.

Responsibilities

Build AI-powered backend systems using Python, FastAPI, and PostgreSQL to support real-time AI interactions.
Define platform architecture, service boundaries, and scalable design patterns for an AI platform.
Integrate with LLM providers and implement orchestration, routing, error handling, and observability.
Collaborate with Labs, product managers, and designers to turn concepts into production features for international products.
Mentor other engineers through pairing, code reviews, and technical guidance.
