Job summary

Sequencing is building AI-powered genomic platforms to help people understand their DNA and health. As a Senior AI Bioinformatics Engineer, you will join a team designing scalable backend systems and genomic reasoning engines for the Sequencing AI platform.

You will own production AI systems, integrate bioinformatics data with AI workflows, and collaborate across backend and bioinformatics teams to deliver explainable, scientifically grounded results at scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years designing, building, and operating backend systems at scale.
• Expert-level TypeScript with ownership of production services.
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals and failure modes.
• Experience with large-scale data processing (Spark).
• Deep data architecture experience (PostgreSQL, Redis, DuckDB).
• Experience building distributed event-driven systems (SQS, RabbitMQ, BullMQ).
• Production AI systems knowledge, including retrieval and evaluation.
• Commitment to correctness, performance, and reliability.

Responsibilities

• Design and build production AI systems powering Sequencing AI.
• Develop distributed backend services and genomic reasoning engines.
• Serve as bioinformatics expert shaping data representation and retrieval.
• Design AI data models, indexing, and storage across PostgreSQL, Qdrant, Redis, DuckDB, Spark.
• Implement guardrails for scientifically accurate, explainable AI outputs.
• Translate genomic knowledge into scalable software for the platform.
• Collaborate with Senior Backend Engineers to ensure fast, scalable systems.
• Work with Bioinformatics to integrate annotations and interpretation logic.
