Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Rockford, IL seeks a Senior Pump Design Engineer to lead design and analysis for aerospace fuel pumps. You will work on balanced/F‑vane, gear and axial piston pumps, interfacing with internal and external customers to ensure robust, cost-effective solutions throughout development and production.

The role emphasizes manufacturability, reliability and maintainability, with collaboration across the design cycle and supplier partnerships.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree with minimum 3 years experience.

Responsibilities

• Deliver design and analysis tasks for pump programs, driving development on schedule and within budget.
• Provide design support across all design-cycle phases: concept to manufacturing and service.
• Design new products and processes, improve existing ones to meet business needs.
• Create common procedures to optimize efficiency and quality across the organization.
• Develop data, layouts, sketches and notes to present design proposals.
• Resolve complex design problems to ensure timely project completion.
• Review layouts and drawings for clarity, standards conformance and calculations.
• Design mechanical components and assemblies with manufacturability, reliability, and maintainability in mind.
• Collaborate with suppliers on sizing and selection of components such as valves, sensors, and motors.
• Evaluate non-conforming products with documented rationale.
• Validate design models with empirical data from tests and participate in root cause investigations.
• Carry out sustaining activities for fielded products.
