Job summary

Optum is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Home & Community Consolidations team, handling complex monthly accounting, consolidated reporting, and month-end close execution. The role requires independent judgment, GAAP mastery, and collaboration with Finance and offshore resources to improve processes and controls.

You’ll have the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the U.S., with a four-day-a-week in-office requirement for hires in Minneapolis or Washington, D.C., area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
• 3+ years of accounting experience including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations and variance analysis.
• Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Effective time management and ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
• Ability to identify process improvements and support automation initiatives.
• Ability to work CST business hours.

Responsibilities

• Support complex accounting across multiple legal entities and businesses.
• Prepare, analyze, and coordinate consolidated financial reporting.
• Execute month-end close activities including journal entries and reconciliations.
• Support monthly SG&A estimate process with Finance.
• Coordinate with partners and offshore resources to ensure timely reporting.
• Develop and improve consolidated accounting processes and controls.
• Support process improvement, automation, and audit readiness initiatives.
