Job summary

The State of Maine seeks a Senior Staff Accountant to join the Department of Administrative and Financial Services in Augusta, with partial telework possible with management approval. The role focuses on program accounting, cash management and cost control for health and human services.

You will analyze financial data, reconcile complex accounts, and ensure compliance with fiscal policies, contributing to MaineCare and TANF financial operations and reporting.

Qualifications

• Intermediate to advanced education, training, and/or experience in accounting or related field.
• Demonstrated knowledge of complex accounting principles and standards.
• Experience analyzing data, interpreting policies, and designing procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide program accounting, cash management and revenue/expenditure control.
• Review financial data for cost allocation accuracy.
• Reconcile complex accounts and prepare adjusting entries.
• Recommend system and process changes based on accounting theory.
• Consult with agency managers and financial staff on needs and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with state/federal fiscal policies for cost allocation and budgeting.
• Prepare projections for cost allocation and budgeting for all DHHS.
• Work independently and support DHHS teams in reconciliations and procedures.
