Job summary

Staples, Inc. is seeking a Sr Accountant I in Framingham, MA, to support the two-day month-end close, prepare monthly journal entries, and ensure GAAP-compliant financial statements.

You will partner with cross-functional teams to strengthen controls and drive process improvements within a dynamic, team-oriented environment. The role emphasizes analytical thinking, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to improving accounting processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 2+ years of accounting, finance, or related professional experience.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Highly motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post monthly journal entries in accordance with GAAP.
• Support the month-end close process with a two-day close timeline.
• Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and analyze account activity.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to develop and maintain accounting processes for balance sheet accounts.
• Ensure appropriate financial controls are established and maintained across supported accounting areas.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests by gathering documentation and providing accounting support.
• Support financial reporting activities that contribute to the preparation of company financial statements.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, increase efficiency, and enhance data accuracy.
• Help implement monitoring and systematic controls that strengthen financial integrity and compliance.
• Collaborate with business partners to provide insights and support informed business decision-making.
