Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) in Hampton, VA is seeking a Senior Accountant to join the corporate Accounting team.

The role supports payroll processing, AP/AR, GL maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close, working with the Accounting Manager to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in government contracting, with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• Minimum 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience across multiple functions.
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll processing, GL maintenance, and reconciliations.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel functionality (formulas, lookups, pivot tables).
• Knowledge of payroll practices and payroll-related accounting processes.
• Familiarity with federal/state financial, payroll, and tax regulations.
• Experience with Deltek Costpoint and ADP payroll systems.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll processing and bi-weekly payroll activities.
• Process and reconcile accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Perform accrual analysis and journal entries.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing.
• Prepare financial reports and schedules.
