Job summary

Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) of Hampton, VA is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join our corporate Accounting team.

The Senior Accountant supports payroll processing, accounts payable, GL maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close while ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial records. The ideal candidate has 5–10 years' experience, preferably in government contracting, with strong analytical and organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience across multiple functions.
• Experience with accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, GL maintenance, and reconciliations.
• Advanced Excel skills (formulas, lookups, pivots, reporting).
• Knowledge of payroll practices and payroll-related accounting processes.
• Familiarity with Deltek Costpoint and ADP payroll Systems.

Responsibilities

• Support payroll processing and bi-weekly payroll activities.
• Process and reconcile accounts payable and receivable transactions.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts for accuracy.
• Analyze expense accruals and prepare journal entries.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities.
• Prepare financial reports and schedules as required.
• Ensure compliance with policies and federal/state regulations.
