Job summary

Atlanta Housing is seeking a Senior Accountant to lead payroll, HAP/UAP processing, and HUD VMS reporting from our Atlanta office. The role requires careful reconciliation, ledger maintenance and external reporting to HUD. Strong collaboration with finance teams is essential to ensure timely, accurate financials and compliance.

The position supports budget and operations with backup for related tasks and will benefit from experience with Yardi and government-funded housing programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of general accounting experience; preferably in Public Housing Authority or equivalent.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or MBA designation a plus.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, reconcile and record biweekly payroll including research and resolution of reconciling items and monthly payroll accrual journal entry.
• Calculate and prepare documentation for Excess Compensation fund transfers in compliance with HUD guidelines.
• Analyze, reconcile and generate payroll and benefits reports for expenses funded with Grants.
• Maintain General Ledger and prepare reconciliations for HAP, Payroll, Bank and COBRA activities.
• Analyze and reconcile monthly and quarterly payroll taxes and resolve variances.
• Validate new benefits and UI tax rates on annual basis to ensure accuracy in Workday.
• Validate and approve Invoices and Purchase Orders for assigned properties.
• Validate and post receipts for Landlord Overpayments and Tenant Repayment Agreements; resolve discrepancies.
• Research ACH returns, receipts and refunds for Cash Management related to HAP/URP and payroll.
• Provide lists of escheatment items for HAP/URP to State authorities.
• Coordinate and prepare HUD VMS reports monthly with quarterly reconciliation.
• Back up for Senior Budget & Financial Analyst for HAP run and Finance Operations duties.
