Job summary

Vaco by Highspring, based in Wilmington, NC, seeks a Senior Accountant to take ownership of month-end close, financial reporting, and account analysis. You will work with business leaders to strengthen controls and accounting processes, contributing to business growth as the organization expands.

Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, analysis of fluctuations, and coordination with external audits. A CPA is preferred and 4+ years of accounting experience are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
• 4+ years of progressive accounting experience with meaningful month-end close responsibilities.
• Strong understanding of US GAAP, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger.
• Advanced Excel skills; public accounting and corporate accounting experience a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take an active role in the monthly close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and supporting schedules.
• Perform detailed review of balance sheet and income statement accounts to identify and resolve accounting issues.
• Prepare monthly financial reporting and provide analysis of significant fluctuations and operating results.
• Evaluate accounting activity for appropriate treatment under US GAAP and assist with technical accounting research when necessary.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, controls, documentation, and reporting.
• Support preparation of financial statements and coordinate documentation for external audit requests.
• Work directly with operational and functional leaders to review results and address accounting-related questions.
• Analyze transactional data, trends, and variances to identify issues and provide meaningful financial insight.
• Participate in budgeting, forecasting, system initiatives, and special projects that extend beyond the routine close process.
