A well-established distribution and services organization is seeking an Accounting Manager to join its finance leadership team. This role will oversee month-end close, financial reporting, tax compliance, process improvement initiatives, and staff development while partnering closely with senior leadership to support business growth.

The Accounting Manager will serve as a hands-on accounting leader responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, driving process improvements, mentoring accounting staff, and supporting future system and ERP initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members
• Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, and talent development initiatives
• Support organizational changes, system implementations, and process improvements
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules
• Analyze income statements, gross profit trends, and operational performance
• Review account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of outstanding items
• Prepare year-end workpapers and support external audit processes
• Present financial results and key insights to leadership

Tax Compliance & Regulatory Support

• Prepare and review various tax-related schedules and filings
• Support compliance with federal, state, and local reporting requirements
• Manage 1099 preparation and year-end reporting activities
• Support audit readiness and regulatory documentation efforts

Systems & Process Improvement

• Support accounting system administration and reporting processes
• Participate in ERP upgrades, implementations, and system enhancements
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve efficiency
• Improve reporting accuracy, controls, and overall data quality
• Help establish scalable accounting processes to support growth

Business Partnership

• Partner with leadership to support informed business decisions
• Assist with departmental allocations and financial analysis
• Provide insights into financial performance and operational trends
• Support strategic initiatives and special projects as needed

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience owning or heavily participating in month-end close
• Financial statement preparation and reporting experience
• Strong account reconciliation and general ledger experience
• Experience with AP, AR, and overall accounting operations
• Strong Excel and financial analysis skills
• Exceptional communication and leadership abilities

Preferred

• CPA or CPA candidate
• Public accounting background
• Prior supervisory or management experience
• Experience within distribution, logistics, transportation, wholesale, manufacturing, or other operationally focused environments
• ERP implementation or system upgrade experienceProcess improvement and automation experience
