Our client, a growing construction company located in West Houston, is seeking a Senior Accountant to join its accounting team. This individual will play a key role in the monthly close process and day-to-day corporate accounting while working closely with the Controller as the company continues to grow.
The ideal candidate is a strong, hands‑on accountant with solid general ledger experience, a good understanding of the full month‑end close process, and an interest in improving and scaling accounting processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and perform key aspects of the full monthly, quarterly, and year‑end close process.
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and other general ledger activity.
- Prepare and review balance sheet and general ledger account reconciliations.
- Research and resolve account discrepancies and accounting issues.
- Assist with preparing monthly financial statements and management reporting.
- Maintain accurate supporting schedules and documentation for the close and reporting processes.
- Work closely with the Controller on accounting initiatives, special projects, and ongoing improvements to the accounting function.
- Identify opportunities to improve, streamline, and automate accounting processes.
- Assist in developing and documenting accounting procedures and internal controls.
- Support the annual audit process and respond to external auditor requests.
- Partner with other departments to ensure accurate and timely accounting information.
- Take on additional responsibilities as the company grows, and the accounting organization continues to evolve.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Approximately 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong general ledger and corporate accounting experience.
- Hands‑on experience with the full month‑end close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and fundamental accounting principles.
- Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting or ERP systems.
- Ability to analyze financial information, identify issues, and independently work through solutions.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across the organization.
- Experience in a growing, evolving, or process‑improvement-oriented environment is a plus.
