Job summary

Southern Methodist University seeks a Senior Academic Technology Services Director (Senior ATSD) on campus to lead strategic technology initiatives for Perkins School of Theology and Dedman School of Law. The role partners with faculty and administration to advance teaching, research, and program innovation.

Responsibilities include guiding AI adoption, LMS governance (Canvas), and development of online/hybrid programs, within a collaborative university-wide framework.

Qualifications

• Master's degree and six (6) years of progressive higher‑education experience, including advisory/leadership roles.
• Doctoral degree preferred; related field is desirable.
• Progressive experience in academic technology support, online instruction, or IT leadership in higher education.
• Experience with Canvas and online/hybrid program offerings is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the principal academic‑technology advisor and strategic partner to deans and academic leaders.
• Lead AI integration governance and pedagogy initiatives across two schools.
• Oversee online and hybrid program architecture and ongoing program support.
• Provide senior oversight of LMS (Canvas) strategy and adoption across schools.
• Coordinate with OIT and academic leadership on technology roadmaps and change initiatives.
• Support faculty development and scholarly‑technology initiatives at scale.
