Job summary

Southern Methodist University seeks an Academic Technology Director for the Lyle School of Engineering. The role is on‑campus and deeply technical, delivering instructional and research technology, HPC, and AI tools for engineering faculty and students.

Responsibilities include hands‑on Linux system administration, LMS support, and collaboration with OIT ATS and the Dean's office to advance Lyle's digital learning and research capabilities.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in academic, research, or instructional technology, systems administration, or technical support in a higher‑education, research, or engineering setting is required.
• OR a Master's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in academic, research, or instructional technology, systems administration, or technical support in a higher‑education, research, or engineering setting is required.
• Degree in CS, engineering, IT, or related technical field is desired.

Responsibilities

• Embedded day‑to‑day academic technology contact for Lyle and coordinates with OIT ATS and school leadership.
• Configures, pilots, and supports approved AI tools for faculty, students, and staff; builds AI literacy resources.
• Provides hands‑on delivery for online and synchronous learning tech, including Canvas integrations.
• Maintains Linux servers, HPC environments, and research computing support for ManeFrame III and NVIDIA DGX.
• Installs and maintains engineering software on Linux and Windows/macOS desktops and labs.
• Maintains classroom and event technology and provides first‑line help for sessions.
