Job Overview

The School of Media and Public Affairs (SMPA) at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) is renowned for media, journalism, and political communication education and research. We focus on how media informs policy and politics, engaging students through internships and access to decision-makers. This Senior Academic Department Administrator supports SMPA by managing daily operations, including budget, personnel, and academic scheduling.


Responsibilities
  1. Budget and Fiscal Management: Manage and report on SMPA's budget, oversee procurement, vendor registration, invoice processing, and expense reports.
  2. Personnel Management: Handle faculty recruitment, hiring, salary payments, and visa coordination for visiting scholars.
  3. Academic Scheduling: Coordinate course offerings, update course information, and generate scheduling reports.
  4. Research Coordination: Collaborate with principal investigators on research activities.
  5. Administrative Tasks: Manage departmental spaces, coordinate with facilities, and support faculty and staff administrative needs.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience is required by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing departmental budgets and financial reports.
  • Proven skills in faculty and staff recruitment, HR processes, and visa coordination.
  • Strong organizational skills in academic operations and space management.
Additional Information

Salary range: $51,455.52 - $70,708.76. This position is based on-site at Foggy Bottom, Washington, D.C., working full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. A background check is required, and the university is an EEO employer.
