Job summary

Blue Origin LLC in Huntsville is seeking an experienced Machinist to join the development of a new advanced hardware program. You will set up and operate multi-axis CNC machines to produce high-precision components for rotating machinery and heat exchangers.

As an early hire, you will provide feedback on tolerancing and fixture design, influence machine-tool selection, and help shape the long-term production strategy while collaborating with design engineering and QA teams.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree in machining technology preferred.
• 8+ years in aerospace or equivalent manufacturing environment.
• 6+ years with multi-axis lathes and 5-axis mills producing tight tolerances.
• 6+ years machining hardened metals (nickel-based alloys, stainless steels, superalloys).
• Extensive CNC controls experience (Mazak, GROB, Okuma, Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, NX).
• Excellent blueprint reading with GD&T per ASME Y14.5; interpret models and drawings.
• CAM experience, preferably Siemens NX.
• Proficiency with precision measurement instruments (CMMs, micrometers, bore gauges).
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and continuous improvement mindset.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate 3- to 5-axis CNC milling machines to produce precision components per drawings.
• Set up and operate CNC lathes and turning centers for shafts, housings, and casings.
• Interpret complex GD&T requirements and plan machining sequences to meet tolerances.
• Provide machinability feedback to design engineering on tolerancing and tooling.
• Evaluate and recommend CNC machines for long-term production plans.
• Perform first-article machining and optimize feeds, speeds, and fixturing.
• Conduct in-process measurement and make offset adjustments to maintain tolerances.
• Support post-processing of AM parts including finish machining.
• Maintain tooling inventories and tool life management; document results.
• Support Cp/Cpk studies and basic preventive maintenance.
