Job summary

Matterport is hiring a Senior Machine Learning R&D Engineer to research and build the next generation of neural reconstruction and generative systems for Matterport's digital twins. You will work at the intersection of neural rendering, view synthesis, and generative modeling, training large-scale models on Matterport's data.

You will collaborate with researchers, platform engineers, and product teams to translate frontier ideas into production-ready capabilities used across 170+ countries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited, in-person university or college.
• A track record of commitment to prior employers.
• Experience in ML research and development with focus on computer vision, 3D data processing, neural rendering, or generative modeling.
• Proficiency in PyTorch and Python.
• Solid understanding of ML fundamentals: deep learning architectures, optimization, evaluation methodologies.
• Experience with data manipulation and analysis libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and implement solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work with complex real-world datasets.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and train large-scale models for 3D reconstruction and generative scene completion.
• Advance neural rendering and novel view synthesis for indoor/outdoor spaces.
• Develop generative approaches including diffusion models and 3D generation.
• Design, implement, and optimize scalable training and inference pipelines for large 3D datasets.
• Translate research prototypes into production-ready systems with engineering teams.
• Define evaluation methodologies and benchmarks for reconstruction quality and plausibility.
• Stay current with advances in neural rendering, generative modeling, and 3D vision.
• Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and researchers to scope projects and deliver features.
• Contribute to the architectural design and roadmap of Matterport’s reconstruction model and ML initiatives.
• Contribute to IP through patents and publications.
