Job summary

Matterport is seeking a Senior Machine Learning R&D Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to advance 3D reconstruction, neural rendering, and generative modeling for digital twins. This role blends research and engineering to ship state-of-the-art capabilities across 170+ countries.

You will design and train large-scale models, prototype novel 3D vision methods, and partner with product teams to translate research into production-ready features at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
• Track record of commitment to prior employers.
• Experience in ML research and development with focus on computer vision, 3D data processing, neural rendering, or generative modeling.
• Proficiency in PyTorch and Python.
• Strong fundamentals in DL architectures and evaluation methodologies.
• Experience with data manipulation libraries (NumPy, Pandas).
• Independent research capabilities and strong communication skills.
• Excellent problem-solving with real-world datasets.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, and train large-scale foundational models for 3D reconstruction and generative scene completion.
• Advance neural rendering and novel view synthesis for real-world spaces.
• Develop generative approaches including diffusion models and 3D generation.
• Design, implement, and optimize scalable training and inference pipelines for 3D and multi-view data.
• Translate research prototypes into production-ready systems with engineering teams.
• Define rigorous evaluation methodologies and benchmarks and drive improvements.
• Stay current with advances in neural rendering, generative modeling, and 3D vision.
• Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and researchers to scope projects and deliver features.
• Contribute to architectural design and strategic roadmap of Matterport's reconstruction model.
• Contribute to patents and publications in ML research.
