Job summary

SSOE is seeking a Process Engineer in Hillsboro, Oregon to help design and deliver advanced semiconductor process facilities. You’ll work on UPW, HPW, gas and chemical distribution, and wastewater systems within a collaborative, design-build team.

You will perform engineering calculations, develop PFDs and P&IDs, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams. Opportunities exist for technical leadership and career growth in a high-tech environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Exposure to semiconductor, advanced high-tech manufacturing, cleanroom, or mission-critical facilities.
• Foundational knowledge in ultrapure or high-purity water systems, specialty gas and chemical distribution systems, wastewater treatment systems, fluid transfer and pumping systems, and heat exchange.
• Understanding of piping systems, including basic pressure drop and material selection.
• Familiarity with PFDs and P&IDs.
• Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support the design and engineering of process systems, including fluid transfer, heat exchange, and high-purity piping systems.
• Contribute to systems involving ultrapure water (UPW), high-purity water (HPW), specialty gases, chemical distribution, and wastewater treatment.
• Perform engineering calculations such as flow analysis, pressure drop (friction loss), pump sizing, and basic heat transfer evaluations.
• Assist in the development of PFDs, P&IDs, and system layouts under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Participate in equipment selection and specification, including pumps, filtration systems, heat exchangers, and chemical delivery systems.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams to ensure coordinated system design in a design-build environment.
• Support field activities including construction coordination, system walkthroughs, and commissioning efforts.
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during design and installation phases.
• Ensure designs align with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
