Idaho National Laboratory seeks a Structural Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Idaho Falls, onsite. You will build and run FEA models (SAP2000, ABAQUS, or MASTODON) to assess containerized substation modules under seismic and transport loading, and summarize results for technical reports.

The role reports to Risk and Reliability Research, with a 9x80s onsite schedule. Start date varies; course credit may be available with university approval.

Qualifications

• Enrollment in a Master or Doctorate program in civil/structural/mechanical/earthquake engineering
• Minimum overall GPA 3.0
• DOE access requirements apply for foreign nationals

Responsabilités

• Build and run finite-element models of containerized substation modules
• Assess performance under seismic, shock, and transport loading
• Summarize findings in technical slides and reports
• Participate in team meetings and contribute to project documentation
