Idaho National Laboratory is leading a DOE project to develop standardized containerized modular substations. This internship involves building and running finite-element models of substation modules using SAP2000, ABAQUS, and MASTODON, and evaluating seismic and transport loading effects.

You will summarize results, present findings, and contribute to broader project documentation. Start date and duration vary; onsite work is at Idaho Falls with a 9x80 schedule; course credit may be possible

Qualifikationen

• Enrolled full time in a Master degree program, or Doctorate Degree program studying civil, structural, mechanical, or earthquake engineering
• Minimum GPA 3.0
• Experience with FEA tools (ABAQUS, ANSYS, SAP2000) and scripting in Python or MATLAB
• Familiarity with MOOSE, MASTODON, or other open-source frameworks
• Knowledge of seismic design standards or equipment qualification
