Job summary

UNC Health is looking for an experienced Security Operations Leader to oversee the hospital police and safety team across UNC Medical Center. The role safeguards patients, staff and visitors by directing daily security operations and coordinating emergency response with hospital leadership and law enforcement.

You will coach and develop teammates, manage shift staffing, ensure accurate incident reporting, and drive adherence to Joint Commission, CMS and internal policies.

Qualifications

• Exhibits strong leadership and decision-making for security operations.
• Experience in emergency response and incident documentation.
• Proficient with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint for reporting.

Responsibilities

• Determines and coordinates staffing needs for assigned shifts and ensures readiness.
• Directs Officers during behavioral emergencies and critical incidents.
• Responds to high-risk incidents and coordinates with clinical and law enforcement partners.
• Acts as first-line operational decision-maker during emergencies.
• Coordinates responses with physicians, nursing leadership and outside agencies.
• Ensures compliance with policies and regulatory standards.
• Reviews reports and ensures timely documentation and follow-up.
• Coaches, mentors and conducts performance reviews for teammates.
• Improves procedures and ensures teammate engagement.
• Performs or assists in safety and security duties and covers shifts as needed.
• Supports annual competencies and deadlines; coordinates across departments.
• Integrates services and ensures policy implementation.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
