Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Security Officer to perform general security work protecting persons and property across the UNC Health system. The role includes enforcing security and safety regulations, report writing, information gathering, video monitoring, and specialized unit assignments to ensure compliance with laws.

Reporting to Rex Protective Services, this onsite 40-hour/week position is based in Raleigh, NC.

Qualifications

• Must be proficient in oral and written communication.
• Basic computer skills.
• Requires one (1) year of previous work experience.

Responsibilities

• Communications effectively via two-way radio, computer, email, telephone and verbal communications within the Hospital Police Department, as well as with other law enforcement agencies, Hospital staff members, visitors and patients.
• Emergency Response—Assist with mental health patient custody issues and arrange transportation or escorting patients; respond to calls for assistance and alarms; support emergency response team.
• Fixed Post Functions—Control ED entry, operate screening systems, monitor parking, and staff other posts as needed.
• Investigations and Incident Report Writing—Complete trespass, patient intervention, and use of force reports with narrative; secure items and conduct risk assessments.
• Patrol—Submit daily logs; escort personnel and visitors; provide after-hours access; document hazards; manage morgue releases and transport documents; enforce tobacco-free policy.
• Traffic Control—Conduct parking surveys, enforce regulations, tow vehicles if needed, and report equipment malfunctions.
