Job summary

UNC Health is seeking a Security Leader to provide leadership and operational oversight for the hospital's security team. Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in security, law enforcement, US military or other government agency.
• CPR Certification Required.
• CPI certification within 60 days after hire; ongoing, maintains a current certification in CPI.

Responsibilities

• Determines and coordinates staffing needs for assigned shifts.
• Directs Officers during behavioral emergencies and critical incidents.
• Responds to assaultive patient incidents, restraints, elopement attempts, and other high-risk situations.
• Serves as the first-line operational decision-maker during emergencies.
• Coordinates responses with physicians, nursing leadership, behavioral health clinicians, hospital administration, and outside law enforcement agencies.
• Communicates effectively with Safety and Security Services leadership.
• Ensures compliance with departmental policies, Joint Commission standards, CMS requirements, other regulatory agencies, and organizational expectations.
• Reviews reports and ensures timely documentation and follow-up after significant incidents.
• Provides critical day-to-day leadership by coaching, mentoring and developing; conducting annual and probationary performance reviews; addressing teammate concerns; and monitoring attendance, time off and timekeeping.
• Studies and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency of teammates.
• Performs or assists teammates in performing safety and/or security duties; secures coverage for any shift unable to be covered.
• Assists the department Manager with completing all annual competencies and requirements; meets deadlines.
• Integrates services within Safety & Security Services and with other departments; ensures implementation of policies and procedures.
• Participates in performance improvement activities.
