Job summary

Mid Coast Hospital, part of MaineHealth, is seeking a per diem Security Officer to monitor the healthcare environment and deescalate incidents. This uniformed role requires a valid driver’s license, BLS certification, and CPI/HIC training as applicable.

Per diem with variable hours and a pay range of $20.27–$24.36 per hour, plus comprehensive benefits. The position supports safety and security across MaineHealth facilities, with vaccination requirements and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; IAHSS certification within one year if location requires it.
  • BLS certification required or to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience in hospital safety and security preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the healthcare environment to prevent security incidents and deescalate as needed.
  • Operate in a uniformed role with necessary safety gear and body camera.
  • Communicate with staff and patients calmly under duress; support protective services as required.

Mid Coast Hospital provides Surgical Services, Maternity Care, and Behavioral Health services, 24-hour Emergency care, Intensive Care, Medical/Surgical/Pediatrics, Laboratory, Diagnostic Imaging, Cardiac Catheterization, Interventional Radiology, rehabilitation and therapy, and an array of community health & wellness programs aimed at preventing and managing chronic diseases. Conveniently located in beautiful downtown Brunswick, the Mid Coast Hospital Walk‑In Clinic offers expert and urgent care for minor medical problems such as cuts, sprains, coughs, and infections, plus on‑site diagnostic services, a co‑located laboratory service center, and integration with primary care.

The Security Services Team is seeking a per diem Security Officer to join their team!

Key Duties
  • Ability to operate a security vehicle (Driver's License required)
  • This is a uniformed position (ballistic vest and body camera)
  • Communication with staff and patients in a calm demeanor under duress
  • Summary: This position is per diem with variable hours.
  • The Security Officer role is responsible for monitoring the healthcare environment to help prevent security incidents from occurring and deescalating incidents as they emerge. May provide protective services and, with sufficient training, patient restraints as deemed necessary by medical staff.
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
  • Education: High school diploma or GED preferred. If appropriate for location, must obtain IAHSS certification within one year of hire required.
  • License/Certifications: Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. Valid Driver’s license if required at local Health System. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or similar to be completed within local Health System requirements. Completion of HIC 100, 200, and 700 if required by facility.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in hospital safety and security preferred.

The pay range for this position is $20.27 to $24.36 per hour.

Compensation for part‑time positions is determined on a prorated basis consistent with the scheduled hours and applicable full‑time equivalent (FTE).
