Job summary

Efficient Computer is seeking its first dedicated security leader to own and build security and IT operations from the ground up. You’ll define protections for code, tools, and hardware, set access controls, and lead export control and data governance.

This role starts with IT and security as a single owner, with growth as we scale across offices. You will work within the Operations team, reporting to the Head of Legal and Compliance, shaping security architecture and incident response while

Qualifications

• 7+ years in information security, including time as the founding or sole security owner at a company.
• Hands-on depth configuring controls beyond documentation.
• Experience securing source code and developer infrastructure: source control, CI/CD, secrets management.

Responsibilities

• Design and enforce protections for source code, compiler toolchain, and hardware designs: classification, encryption, storage, and access.
• Own the access model across engineering systems: repository permissions, credentials governance, access reviews.
• Establish controls for sensitive data under third-party confidentiality obligations.
• Build and maintain evidence that we take measures to protect trade secrets.
• Secure a developer-heavy, multi-platform engineering environment with tooling that fits developers.
• Secure our software supply chain end to end: dependencies, builds, releases, compiler security.
• Own network and infrastructure security architecture and in-house vs managed decisions.
• Work with vendors as a technical peer, not a ticket queue.
• Own detection, logging, and incident response; write runbooks.
• Lead the security program to meet NIST SP 800-171 and CMMC; audits readiness.
• Travel ~25% to work across offices.
• Export control and data handling policies.
