Position Type: Non-exempt (compensatory and/or overtime eligible); full-time; 40 hours per week (varied day or evening shift as assigned); full benefits

Note: Employees working between 4:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m. are eligible for an additional 5% shift differential pay. Details will be shared at the interview.

This unarmed position provides security for Winchester Hall, 30 N. Market, and other County facilities. It requires working various shifts and may involve a flexible schedule to cover for other security personnel. Supervision is provided by the Security Manager or Security Specialist.

Compensation: The upper pay range reflects wage rates for internal transfers and promotions; external hires are offered the base wage rate. Frederick County values diversity and inclusion and encourages applicants to make a difference in the community.

Primary Duties:

• Screen and sign-in visitors; verify and direct their movement; deny access if needed
• Provide customer service and assistance to visitors
• Conduct patrols, check facilities for hazards, ensure security measures are in place
• Identify, report emergencies, respond to incidents, monitor parking, and manage security equipment
• Write incident reports, maintain records, and provide security escorts as needed
• Respond to alarms, monitor CCTV, and coordinate with law enforcement in emergencies
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least 6 months of public customer service experience
• Intermediate Microsoft 365 skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Current First Aid, CPR, AED certifications or ability to obtain within 6 months

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Maintain driver privileges, learn security procedures, operate security equipment
• Use discretion, make decisions, and remain calm in emergencies
• Work independently, develop relationships, communicate effectively, and produce clear reports

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certifications or training in law enforcement, public safety, or security
• Experience with video surveillance and security operations

Physical & Working Conditions:

• Constant sitting and reaching; frequent walking; occasional climbing and lifting up to 20 pounds
• Indoor and outdoor work; possible extreme temperatures
• Flexible schedule including evenings and weekends; on-call availability
• Subject to background check and drug testing; security-sensitive position
