Job summary

The New York Times Company is seeking an Engineering Manager for Cybersecurity to lead a Security Engineering team responsible for central security platforms, vulnerability management, and secure CI/CD guardrails at scale.

You will mentor engineers, shape roadmaps, and balance risk with delivery while partnering across Cybersecurity, Developer Platforms, Enterprise Technology and Product Engineering.

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years of experience leading engineers as a people manager or tech lead in security engineering, platform engineering, SRE, DevOps, or related fields.
• Hands-on experience in security engineering and/or infrastructure/platform engineering; production workloads on AWS and/or GCP.
• Familiarity with cloud-native security services and guardrails; ability to balance security and delivery needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a Security Engineering team building core security platforms and logging/detection infra.
• Define vision, direction, and strategy for Security Engineering with stakeholders across the org.
• Own team execution from roadmap through implementation, rollout, and ongoing ops.
• Create an environment that emphasizes context over control; provide tooling and patterns for secure product delivery.
• Collaborate with Developer Platforms, Enterprise Technology, and Product Engineering on secure-by-default guardrails.
• Establish processes for vulnerability intake, triage, remediation, and actionable reporting.
