Job summary

CGS Federal is seeking an experienced Network Engineer in Chantilly, VA to design, implement, and sustain a large-scale wired and wireless network. You will evaluate existing networks, apply best practices, and collaborate with government personnel and vendors to ensure robust, secure, and maintainable infrastructure.

The role requires strong documentation, RF survey experience, and knowledge of routing, switching, and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Computer Science, Information systems or related discipline.
• Strong documentation skills including updating JIRA Tickets, Wiki Pages and Network Diagrams.
• CWNA Certification or equivalent
• BCNE Certification or equivalent
• Experience with RF site survey tools such as Ekahau, RF Scanners and Wireshark.
• Knowledge of layer 2 switching and layer 3 routing: VLANs, 802.1q/w spanning, OSPF and VRRP.
• Knowledge of network security: 802.1x, MAC Authentication, ACLs, RADIUS, CA.
• Experience with disaster recovery, penetration testing and cyber threat analysis.

Responsibilities

• Operate and manage NPS network infrastructure.
• Improve infrastructure monitoring and reporting capabilities with network management software.
• Develop, maintain and deliver network documentation and diagrams.
• Review current best practices and provide architecture recommendations.
• Administer Cloudpath onboarding, monitor wireless health, and apply security patches 0800–1700 PST, Mon–Fri.
• Assess and optimize the NPS network infrastructure.
• Define and conduct testing procedures for new infrastructure projects.
• Provide design guidance on network solutions within NPS projects.
• Offer training and knowledge transfer to NPS resources on network operation concepts.
