Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs is seeking a Section Manager Engineering for the Tilden Mine in Ishpeming, MI. The role provides engineering and asset management support for all aspects of the operation, including reliability, maintenance, and project execution.

The position requires a BS in Engineering/Metallurgy, 10–12 years of supervisory experience, and strong knowledge of safety regulations. Relocation support may be available; Cleveland-Cliffs offers competitive pay and benefits.

• Good knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
• Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate site reliability engineering programs including preventive and predictive maintenance and condition-based monitoring.
• Direct and coordinate project engineering and management from initiation through commissioning.
• Provide engineering support for asset maintenance, restoration, and equipment improvement activities.
• Aid in developing short- and long-range operating and maintenance plans, budgets, and performance targets.
• Prioritize work requests to achieve safety, quality, customer service, and cost objectives.
• Lead department personnel to achieve performance goals and oversee disciplinary actions as needed.
• Assist in equipment needs assessment and procurement decisions.
• Monitor key process indicators to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
• Foster teamwork and high-performance standards across the section.

Job description

Location: Ishpeming, MI

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Section Manager Engineering at the Tilden Mine. This position will provide engineering and asset management support for all aspects of the Tilden operation.

Summary Of Responsibilities

• Manage site reliability engineering. Direct and coordinate preventative maintenance programs, predictive maintenance and condition-based monitoring systems (oil analysis, vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasound, etc.), delay analysis/reporting, and performance of root cause failure analysis.
• Manage site capital/infrastructure project engineering. Direct and coordinate project engineering and project management from initiation through engineering, construction and commissioning. Direct and support site infrastructure inspection, repair activity, and restoration projects.
• Manage site maintenance engineering. Provide engineering support for asset maintenance, asset restoration, and equipment improvement activities.
• Assist with directing and coordinating the development of short- and long-range operating and maintenance plans, budgets, and targets of performance for the site.
• Assist with directing, coordinating, and prioritizing work requests from the site, in order to achieve the desired results in safety, quality, customer service, and cost.
• Direct, coordinate, and motivate department personnel to achieve the desired performance results.
• Assist with determining equipment needs and participate in the selection, purchase and integration of equipment.
• Monitor key process indicators on a continuous basis in order to improve process efficiency, product quality and cost effectiveness.
• Promote and encourage teamwork and high-performance standards throughout the section and oversee the disciplinary action process when necessary.
• Coordinate and participate in safety and loss control programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering, Metallurgy, or equivalent.
• 10 – 12 years supervisory/managerial experience maintenance, operations, and administration.
• Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
• Competent communication skills both oral & written.
• Problem solving skills.
• Sound knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
• Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

• 7-10 years supervisory/engineering experience.
