Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs at the Tilden Mine in Ishpeming, MI is seeking a Shift Manager Operations to lead Plant Concentrator Operators and the control room. You will plan, assign, and review work based on standard work and process conditions, ensuring safety and efficiency across the facility.

You will develop shift plans, conduct toolbox meetings, monitor quality, close out work orders, and coordinate with supervisors to minimize variation and implement sustainable improvements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 3-5 years in heavy industrial environment.
  • Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching people.
  • CMMS experience; Ellipse preferred.
  • Read and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs; mobility; long periods on feet.
  • Willing to work shift work; authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Lead plant concentrator operators and control room staff.
  • Plan and prioritize shift work from weekly work orders.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings; communicate plan and tasks.
  • Monitor quality and inspect completed work.
  • Write and close out work orders; reflect hours for payroll.
  • Document shift performance for handover to others.

Location: Ishpeming, MI

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Shift Manager Operations at our Tilden Mine site. This position prioritizes, assigns, directs, and reviews work of Plant Concentrator Operators and the control room based on standard work, and process conditions across the facility.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Demonstrate safe work practices and lead work safely.

Gather information from previous supervisor(s) and crew and use information to create a shift plan.

Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet on a daily basis.

Perform shift toolbox meeting, communicating shift plan, task assignments, shift operating parameters, and any special tasks required.

Monitor and inspect the quality of completed work assignments.

Complete shift inspection of crew member areas, inspecting the quality and completeness of work assignments.

Write and close out work orders for crew, ensuring job hours are accurately reflected to tasks assigned.

Ensure start and stop times are accurately reflected for payroll.

Document shift performance for crew, work achieved, and key process parameters for handover to other operating personnel.

Understand significant deviations from the department's operating plan and make changes to correct and implement sustainable solutions to deviations.

Elevate deviations to the manager that cannot be corrected at supervisor level. Plan and prioritize work assignments from the weekly work order packet on a daily basis.

Collaborate with other supervisors to minimize variation between shifts and implement best practices.

Administer corporate, site, and departmental policies consistently and impartially.

Make recommendations on quality improvement initiatives, communicate the priority of process improvement work to subordinates, and monitor that the process improvement work is completed.

Coordinate plans, projects, and programs to achieve the desired performance results in safety, quality, production, cost, and environmental performance.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED required.

3-5 years of experience in heavy industrial environment preferably steel, hydrocarbon or mining environment

Experience overseeing, leading, and coaching people.

Ability to work under minimal supervision and effectively manage multiple/changing priorities.

Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) experience; Ellipse preferred.

Reasonable mechanical aptitude

Effectively communicate both orally and through written text

Ability to read and constructively influence personnel in team processes.

Occasionally lifting up to 25lbs

Mobility required. Must be able to handle stairs and long periods of work on your feet.

Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt, vibrations, and extreme climate changes / changes in weather

Ability to work at heights.

Willing to work shift work.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferably previous work in steel, hydrocarbon, or mining environment.

Relocation assistance is not provided for this position.
