Leidos’ Defense Systems Electrical Systems Department is seeking a Section Manager – Electrical Systems to join our team to create unique solutions for complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber, and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific, and IT solutions.

The Electrical Systems Department is a design-focused group of engineers specializing in advanced hardware-based solutions. The individual selected for this position will be a working manager responsible for supervising a team of Electrical Design Engineers while also contributing to programs for internal and external customers. As a manager, the individual will develop and grow their team to support organizational objectives with an emphasis on scaling and quality improvement. As a technical contributor and leader, the individual will support a variety of programs to develop electronic assemblies integrated into a diverse range of aerospace and military systems including manned/unmanned ground/air vehicles, missiles, defensive radars, and space systems. The individual will be expected to manage their time and priorities effectively to ensure both project and organizational success.

The individual must be a self-starter with strong technical skills and a proven history of technical leadership. The individual must also have excellent communication skills and a desire to build and develop a team to tackle challenging technical problems.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Provide technical oversight and mentorship to develop team members
  2. Develop strong working relationships with team members to meet productivity and retention goals
  3. Conduct regular staff meetings and one-on-ones with team members
  4. Scale the team by identifying hiring needs, writing job postings, coordinating screening of applicants, interviewing, and making hiring recommendations
  5. Propose and implement ideas to improve organizational quality, agility, and capability
  6. Support organizational business development goals and initiatives by providing technical input to proposals
  7. Perform necessary reporting, approvals, and other administrative tasks
  8. Provide technical input to program leadership during the planning and execution of engineering projects
  9. Perform hardware system development from requirements derivation to design, fabrication, integration, and testing
  10. Balance management and technical tasks, with approximately 25% management and 75% technical focus
  11. Thrive in a learning environment that encourages leadership and technical growth

Basic Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited institution
  2. 2+ years of experience leading small to mid-sized technical teams
  3. 5+ years of experience in hardware system design and testing from architecture through implementation
  4. Experience with technical problem solving and root cause analysis
  5. Ability to decompose system-level considerations into lower design levels
  6. Experience working in a collaborative engineering environment with multidisciplinary teams
  7. Ability to interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and system block diagrams
  8. Proven understanding of fundamental circuits and components
  9. Hands-on laboratory experience with instrumentation, test equipment, and debugging methods
  10. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
  11. Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
  12. Resident of North Alabama or willing to relocate to Huntsville - North Alabama, AL

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent from an ABET-accredited university is preferred.

Additional preferred experience includes:

  • Personnel management including hiring, development, and staffing
  • Process improvement initiatives
  • Project management, including cost and schedule oversight
  • Business development activities such as proposals and white papers
  • Electrical design experience for military hardware or aerospace systems

Security Requirements:

Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Final Secret Clearance or be eligible for a Secret Clearance.
