Job summary

RTX is seeking a Section Leader in San Diego to support career development, staffing, and performance of engineers within the SE&TC team. The role involves leadership of section members, collaboration with program leadership, and contributing to workforce planning while maintaining alignment with RTX engineering practices.

This onsite position expects active government-cleared candidates and offers opportunities to influence staffing decisions and grow professional networks within the department.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience.
• Experience in systems, software, integration and/or test.
• Experience leading technical teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship, and career development for section members.
• Lead recurring performance discussions, including goal setting and structured feedback.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Foster a collaborative, supportive team environment that promotes growth and retention.
• Partner with program and functional leadership to assess workforce needs and address staffing challenges.
• Advocate for continuous improvement across engineering teams, workflows, and culture.
• Manage key administrative responsibilities including timekeeping, training compliance, and salary planning.
• Support department- and directorate-level initiatives.
• Ensure adherence to RTX values, policies, and engineering best practices.
• Work as a technical lead or individual contributor; Section Leader duties account for approximately 10% of the employee’s time.
• Travel domestically, up to 20%.
