Job summary
Advocate Health is seeking a part-time Histology Technician for the Carolinas Medical Center Histology Lab in Charlotte, NC. You will perform frozen section preparations, routine/special/immunohistochemical stains, and assist with autopsies and gross examinations to support rapid clinical diagnoses.
Qualified candidates include those enrolled in HT/HTL ASCP with certification within one year or with related experience.
Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an HT or HTL ASCP program and must obtain certification within one year of completing the program or hire date; or be certified HT/HTL (ASCP) with 1 year of experience; or an uncertified HT with at least 3 years of experience.
Responsibilities
- Performs frozen section preparations within expected time, ensuring proper embedding, sectioning, and staining for prompt diagnosis.
- Performs routine, special stains, and immunohistochemical stains.
- Recognizes deviations from expected results and determines appropriate actions.
- Assists with autopsies according to standard procedures as assigned.
- Prepares specimens for gross examination and ensures correct lab and order accuracy.
- Stores or disposes of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks in an orderly, retrievable manner.
- Completes required daily procedures with accuracy.
