Job summary

Starbucks is seeking a Senior IoT Engineer to design, build, and operate connected device platforms powering retail operations across thousands of stores. You will work on edge devices, cloud services, and data pipelines, delivering reliable, scalable solutions with strong security and observability.

The ideal candidate has deep experience in C++, Python, robotics, and modern web development, and will collaborate with Digital Display, Retail Tech, Store Ops, Product Eng, Cyber Security, and Data

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years of professional software engineering experience in IoT, distributed systems, cloud platforms, or large-scale connected device ecosystems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop software solutions supporting thousands of connected retail devices operating in production environments.
• Build and maintain scalable IoT platforms responsible for device connectivity, provisioning, telemetry collection, command end and control functions, and lifecycle management.
• Develop solutions that span edge to cloud-hosted services and ensure platform reliability, security, and maintainability.
• Develop and maintain C++ software on edge and embedded devices, and design solutions communicating with sensors and retail equipment.
• Design, develop, and maintain Python-based microservices and APIs; build scalable service architectures; implement security controls and testing pipelines.
• Design and support Kafka-based messaging and event streaming; create scalable telemetry and operational data pipelines.
• Design and maintain MySQL database architectures; implement data retention and performance optimizations.
• Design and implement ReactJS-based web applications for operators and engineers; build dashboards and analytics portals.
• Engineer secure device connectivity and network interactions; support observability and incident response.
• Develop platform observability with metrics, logging, tracing, and alerting; drive reliability and automation.
