Job summary

Orange Barrel Media is seeking a senior engineer to lead and harden the edge platform behind our kiosk fleet. You will work on Linux/Python stack, Ubuntu-based services, and AWS IoT Core, with a focus on security, reliability, and growth. This is a player-coach role with direct reports and code-review leadership.

You’ll balance hands-on coding with people management, ensuring the edge and IoT codebase meets high standards while expanding the team’s capabilities and roadmap alignment.

Qualifications

• Strong, recent experience with Python at the systems level (async, systemd, MQTT, event loops).
• Experience with Snap packaging and modern Ubuntu LTS.
• Wayland-based kiosk display stacks knowledge.
• Production experience with AWS IoT Core.
• Familiarity with a modern configuration management tool for fleet rollouts.
• OpenTelemetry instrumentation experience.
• Deep understanding of Linux edge and device fundamentals.

Responsibilities

• Lead the edge platform behind the kiosk fleet and cloud IoT services.
• Code review leadership and setting quality bar for edge/IoT code.
• Manage one direct report, including 1:1s and career development.
• Hardening and securing the platform while continuing to ship features.
