Job summary

Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) seeks a part-time Writing Coach to support undergraduate and graduate students with academic, creative, and professional writing. The role emphasizes idea development, research strategies, organization, and effective communication in a welcoming center environment.

The position involves individualized coaching sessions, collaboration with faculty, and maintaining confidential records. Evening or weekend hours may be needed during the academic year.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Graduate study is a plus but not required.
• Demonstrated strong written communication across academic, creative, or professional writing.
• Experience tutoring, coaching, or teaching students is preferred.
• Familiarity with APA and Chicago citation styles and research practices.

Responsibilities

• Conduct individualized writing coaching sessions with undergraduate and graduate students.
• Provide constructive feedback to improve organization, structure, and clarity.
• Support students with research, studio writing, résumés, cover letters, and scholarships.
• Help students with idea development, study skills, and time management.
• Communicate with faculty and staff to support writing goals and expectations.
• Maintain accurate records of sessions and protect student confidentiality.
• Participate in meetings, training, and professional development.
