Job description

Work at Papillion Landing and assist in providing a safe environment for patrons and members to enjoy. Perform a variety of maintenance tasks to ensure the safe daily operation of all buildings and structures on Papillion Landing’s campus. Projects will include a variety of indoor and outdoor tasks performed under contrasting weather conditions.

POSITION TITLE: Recreation Maintenance Worker

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor

SUPERVISES: NA

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Responsible for assisting in routine and preventive maintenance, making repairs, and groundskeeping to ensure the functionality and safety of Recreation Department facilities and equipment.

An incumbent will be required to work varied hours during the week and may include evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assists with routine and preventive maintenance including, but not limited to, cleaning, organizing, painting, filter replacement, turf care and making repairs to gym, aquatics, fitness and other facility equipment and furniture along with minor carpentry, plumbing, roofing, and masonry repairs.

Performs grounds maintenance activities including, but not limited to, mulching, mowing, fertilizing, weeding, watering, string line trimming, edging, tree trimming and raking.

Operates various large and small power equipment, outdoor power equipment, and hand tools on a regular basis.

Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various equipment, skills, and techniques according to federal, state, local, and departmental guidelines.

Ensures the proper maintenance of tools and equipment by cleaning and checking tools and equipment after use.

Operates various city vehicles including, but not limited to, vans, trailers, work trucks and gators.

Assists with snow removal procedures and disperses salt as necessary or directed.

Assists with the setup and cleanup of various seasonal decorations and special events as needed.

This position requires the employee to be physically present at the workplace to fully engage with the team and participate actively in all aspects of their role.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITY:

Must possess a reasonable amount of knowledge regarding technology and feel comfortable and confident using the department’s maintenance and work order tracking software.

Ability to learn to operate vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools pertaining to the job duties performed.

Ability to work independently to prioritize and complete tasks in a timely manner using problem-solving techniques as situations arise.

Ability to understand and follow both oral and written instructions, in English.

Ability to maintain regular and dependable attendance on the job.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES .

Minimum age of eighteen (18) years.

Must possess a valid driver license.

Maintenance experience preferred.

Must be able to obtain a First Aid/CPR/AED certification within a time frame established by the employer and maintain the certification for the entirety of employment.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed both in an indoor and outdoor environment, with the employee being exposed to fluctuations in the weather including extreme sun, wind, snow, rain, hot, cold and humid conditions.

Work requires a considerable amount of physical activity including walking, standing, kneeling, bending, crouching, reaching, and stooping. An incumbent must have the ability to lift 50 lbs. unassisted and must also possess the ability to push and pull equipment up to 50 lbs. and hand tools up to 10 lbs. An incumbent must possess the coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate hand and power tools and equipment utilized in the upkeep, repair and maintenance tasks. Work hours may occasionally be required in times of darkness. Vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level may be moderate to intense depending on activity performed.
