Job description

Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Maintenance Worker II - Carpenter position is a maintenance team member responsible for various maintenance tasks and supporting Campus Carpentry and Construction projects. This full-time position oversees all campus plant operations.

Essential Functions
  • Maintain interior and exterior components of buildings.
  • Construct cabinets, furniture, walls, and countertops; install glass, floors, cabinets, doors, bulletin boards, and similar items.
  • Repair and install doors, locks, maintain key inventory, and perform lock-picking as necessary.
  • Repair walls, furniture, and cabinets; perform welding repairs if needed.
Assist in Materials Management
  • Determine materials needed, calculate costs, order supplies, and keep records.
  • Manage inventory, order and maintain carpentry tools, and perform routine maintenance.

Marginal Functions
  • Assist with custodial and maintenance equipment.
  • Support snow removal during inclement weather.
  • Assist with concrete installation and preparation.
  • Participate in general building and grounds maintenance, including carpentry and painting.
  • Perform related duties as assigned, potentially in other divisions or locations.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and on-call as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Follow instructions related to hazardous materials.
  • Transport and operate ladders, boom trucks, and other equipment.
  • Operate trucks, tractors, forklifts, and power tools.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Use safe lifting and moving techniques and power tools.
  • Maintain basic computer skills.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 80 lbs, work in extreme conditions, and at heights.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with vocational or on-the-job training.
  • At least 5 years of carpentry experience or 3 years plus an associate degree in related field.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to qualify for auto insurance.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in commercial construction and working from blueprints.
Salary and Benefits

Salary: $22.75/hour

Schedule

Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with potential for overtime, on-call duties, and work outside regular hours for special activities or emergencies.
