Responsibilities

Job description

Statement of Duties

Skilled manual work involved in the maintenance of the arena and ice surfaces; all other related work as required.

Works to anticipate, meet and exceed customer service expectations and represent Rochester Recreation & Arena in a positive and professional manner.

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Facilities and Operations Supervisor. Functions independently, usually working an opposite shift from the Facilities and Operations Supervisor. Refers specific situations to supervisor in cases of emergencies or if clarification is needed.

Job Environment

Work is moderately complex, particularly in the operation of the ice re-surfacer when ice surfaces must be cleaned within specified time constraints. Work is regularly interrupted by the public.

Work is performed at the ice arena so has exposure to unpleasant working conditions related to outdoor and maintenance functions in the arena. Evening and weekend work is required.

Operates heavy equipment (ice re-surfacer), power equipment, including skate sharpener and hand tools, as well as a computer and general office equipment.

Makes regular contact with users of the facility, comprised of persons of all ages for the purpose of giving information, aiding, and generally maintaining good order.

Errors could result in adverse public relations, negative impact on customers, mismanagement of funds and personnel, safety hazards and could have legal or financial repercussions for the City.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for all Arena operations during shift.
• Responsible for maintaining order by enforcing the rules and regulations of the Arena.
• Operates and maintains the ice re-surfacer for the purpose of preparing and maintaining the skating surface for continuous usage.
• Responsible for all building maintenance functions, both technical and non-technical.
• Perform routine cleaning services throughout their shift to ensure a presentable, safe facility.
• Complete all opening and closing tasks pertaining to facility and point of sale operations.
• Participate in the management and sale of merchandise and registrations in the pro shop utilizing recreation software.
• Operate skate sharpening machine.
• Responsible for identifying and remediating or relaying concerns about safety or problems with equipment or facility.
• Responsible for directing and communicating with other staff on duty pertaining to schedule and facility operations.
• Handle all inquiries from other agencies, groups, and citizens, including patron complaints and event crowd control.
• Ensure that proper support services are provided for the facility schedule, including non-ice related facility use.
• Attend staff meetings as requested.
• Follow departmental policies and procedures and enforces rules and regulations.
• Perform other similar or related duties as required, or as the situation dictates.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma: must have some familiarity with ice arena operations and be able to use power and hand tools.
