Job summary

Ivy Tech Community College is seeking a Part-Time Academic Gap Advisor to provide short-term, developmental academic advising during peak enrollment periods and semester gaps. The advisor supports students in navigating placement scores, program requirements, and course planning, and helps with registration and connecting to campus resources.

This temporary, non-continuous position is designed to adapt to peak advising demand, with a focus on student success and compliance with FERPA.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1–2 years of relevant experience in student services, advising, or related roles.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a caseload in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic advising support during high-demand periods, including semester start and registration windows.
• Guide students in understanding placement scores, program curriculum, prerequisites, and transfer opportunities.
• Assist students with registration for developmental education, general education, and prerequisite courses.
• Assist students with appeals/requests such as to repeat courses for a third time.
• Collaborate with academic departments to ensure continuity and consistency in advising practices.
• Use student data and reports to implement proactive advising strategies.
• Refer students to appropriate college services such as tutoring, counseling, financial aid, and career planning.
• Maintain compliance with FERPA and uphold ethical standards of student confidentiality.
• Participate in training or team meetings as needed during the appointment period.
• This position is designed to provide flexible support during peak advising times and is not continuously active throughout the academic year. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support departmental goals.
