Job summary

Cal Poly is seeking a Temporary Academic Advisor to assist with advising students during the transition from the quarter to the semester system. This full-time temporary role provides holistic advising and supports degree planning, course selection, and major changes.

Under supervision of the CLA Associate Dean for Student Success, the advisor will coordinate with campus partners, support first-generation students, and contribute to orientation efforts.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
• Two years of professional experience in student services or related field; a master’s degree may substitute for one year of experience.
• Additional specialized experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

• Provide holistic academic advising to undergraduate students.
• Develop tailored academic plans including course selection, concentrations, and minors.
• Explain campus policies, support change of major processes, and guide new student orientation.
• Refer students to campus partners such as basic needs programs and Campus Health & Wellbeing.
