Job summary

AXA XL is seeking a Risk Engineer for Subcontractor Default Insurance (SDI) to consult with Underwriters, Claims, and contractor partners. You will manage claims, assess controls, and provide risk reduction recommendations across a national scope.

The role requires extensive construction experience, a relevant engineering degree, and the ability to travel 25–40%. You will work in a remote-friendly environment and report to the Risk Engineering Manager for SDI.

Qualifications

• Extensive direct construction experience across contractor/subcontractor contexts.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management or equivalent.
• Proven ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and influence actions.
• Willingness to travel 25–40% and work in a remote environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide SDI program lifecycle support including risk controls, training and assessments.
• Assist with notices of claim and coordination with stakeholders to manage subcontractor defaults.
• Offer risk improvement recommendations tailored to customer needs and industry trends.
• Collaborate with underwriting and claims to optimize risk management and cost of risk.
