Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Herndon, VA is seeking an experienced Software Development Engineer to design and build highly available services that power EC2 networking at scale.

You will own services end-to-end, mentor engineers, participate in on-call rotations, and contribute to automation tooling in Python and Ruby while upholding AWS's deployment safety and operational excellence.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Design and build server-side APIs and asynchronous workflows at EC2 scale across all AWS regions.
• Own services end-to-end: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Troubleshoot and root-cause customer-impacting issues across distributed systems.
• Write and review design documents for new features and system improvements.
• Mentor junior engineers through design reviews and code reviews.
• Participate in on-call rotations and drive operational improvements to improve availability.
• Build and maintain automation tooling in Python and Ruby to support deployment safety and fleet operations.
