Job summary

KIPP DC is seeking a Licensed School Social Worker for the 2026-27 school year in Washington, DC. You will deliver data-driven social-emotional interventions, advocate for student support services, and collaborate with families, administrators, and community partners.

Responsibilities include providing counseling and behavioral supports, completing IEP/504 paperwork, and coordinating with MTSS tiers. The role requires DC licensure and is exempt, with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in social work or professional counseling (Required).
• Licensed Graduate or Independent Social Worker/Professional Counselor by DC DOH (Required/Preferred).
• Commitment to working with students with limited access to quality educational opportunities (Required).
• Experience working in an urban public school (Preferred).
• Pass all background check requirements under the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018 (Required).

Responsibilities

• Provide group and individual behavior support services for Special Education students as outlined by IEPs.
• Provide counseling and/or behavior support services to general education students, including those with 504 Plans.
• Monitor progress via observations and assessments to inform goals.
• Respond to acute mental health crises and safety concerns with appropriate interventions.
• Develop and manage student behavior intervention plans and collaborate with staff.
• Support MTSS tiers 1–3 with mental and behavioral health programming.
• Respond to requests for behavioral de-escalation and safety concerns.
• Complete special education paperwork for meetings and communicate with families about safety and interventions.
• Log progress notes and maintain 504 case management documentation.
• Collaborate with community-based organizations for referrals and decrease absenteeism.
• Liaise with social service agencies and engage families in housing and support services.
• Attend events such as Open Houses and conferences to engage families.

Education

Master's Degree in social work or professional counseling
