Job summary

KIPP DC seeks a Licensed Mental Health Practitioner for the 2026-27 school year in Washington, DC. The role delivers data-driven mental health interventions and supports the social, emotional, and behavioral wellbeing of students and families, collaborating with teachers and leaders.

The position is exempt, reports to the school leader and Mental Health Leadership Team, with standard hours 7:30 am–5:00 pm, five days a week, and growth opportunities within a vibrant educational community.

Qualifications

• Master's Degree in social work or professional counseling is required.
• Licensed Graduate Social Worker (LGSW) or Independent Social Worker/Professional Counselor by the DC DOH is required or preferred.
• Commitment to working with students with limited access to quality educational opportunities.
• Experience working in an urban public school is preferred.
• Pass all background check requirements under the School Safety Omnibus Amendment Act of 2018.

Responsibilities

• Provide group and individual behavior support for SPED students per IEP to address social-emotional issues.
• Counsel/general education student support including those with 504 Plans.
• Regular progress monitoring via observations and assessments to inform goals.
• Respond to acute mental health crises with risk assessments and interventions.
• Develop and manage BIPs with MTSS fidelity.
• Support MTSS Tier 1–3 mental health programming.
• De-escalate requests for behavioral assistance.
